If Your Personal Information was maintained by or accessible at the University of Minnesota in August 2021 or You Received Notice From the University of Minnesota That Your Personal Information Was Potentially Compromised
You Could Get Money From a Data Incident Litigation Settlement.
A Minnesota State Court has authorized this Settlement Website. This is not a solicitation from a lawyer.
Please Read This Settlement Website Carefully
- A settlement has been proposed in the consolidated class action lawsuit against Regents of the University of Minnesota (the “University”) relating to claims brought by Plaintiffs or Class Representatives and on behalf of themselves and the Settlement Class as a result of alleged unauthorized access to, or exfiltration of, Personal Information from the University of Minnesota’s Legacy Data Warehouse that occurred in or about August 2021 and that was the subject of the University of Minnesota’s Notice of Data Incident posted on the University’s websites in September 2023, or the “Data Incident.”
- The $5 million Settlement Fund will provide payments to individuals whose Personal Information was maintained in or accessible via the University’s Legacy Data Warehouse as of August 10, 2021 and who submit valid claim form through the process set forth below.
- Your legal rights are affected whether you act or do not act.
FILE A CLAIM | The only way to receive any of the Settlement benefits. |
ASK TO BE EXCLUED BY OPTING OUT | Get no benefits. This is the only option that may allow you to sue the University or other Released Parties over the claims being resolved by this Settlement. |
OBJECT | Write to the Court about why you do not think the Settlement is fair, reasonable and adequate. You can also ask to speak to the Court at the hearing on January 28, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. CT about the fairness of the Settlement, with or without your own attorney. |
IF YOU DO NOTHING | Get no benefits. Give up your rights to sue the University over the legal claims in this case. |
- These rights and options – and the deadlines to exercise them – are explained in this Settlement Website.
- The Court still has to decide whether to approve the Settlement. Payments will be made only after the Court grants final approval of the Settlement and any appeals are resolved. This could potentially take months or a year or more. Please be patient.
